La Grange
This community is actually a suburb of Chicago, located 13 miles outside the city. With a population of about 15,500 people, this suburb is a relatively smaller one. However, the community is big on celebrating and hosts a number of festivals throughout the year, including Experience La Grange Weekend and West End Arts Festival the Pet Parade.
Quincy
Lying along the bluffs of the Mississippi River, Quincy boasts beautiful architectural attractions, including The Quincy Museum, The Quincy Art Center, The John Wood Mansion, The Gardner Museum of Architecture and Design and the Villa Katherine Castle.
Elgin
Elgin is a booming city located 40 miles northwest of Chicago. The city has an active arts community and is also home to the well-known Elgin Symphony Orchestra. The community also has ample green space and is bordered by a breathtaking 4,200-acre natural preserve.
Naperville
Naperville was actually voted as the second-best city to live in the United States by Money Magazine. Located in DuPage and Will counties, the city boasts state-of-the-art amenities, like music venues, museums and restaurants. Plus, its library has been voted the best in the United States for the last eight years.
Springfield
If you are lucky enough to be in Illinois in August, you should definitely check out the Illinois State Fair in Springfield. Throughout the rest of the year though, Springfield is the ideal location for all things history related–especially anything dealing with Abraham Lincoln. If modern architecture catches your fancy, check out the Dana-Thomas house, which was designed by the great architect, Frank Lloyd Wright.
